4th Generation what is this called, and your opinions please

i'm looking to customize my intake into CAI by removing the airbox and replacing with a straight pipe.

as the picture shows my stock parts... there's a hose coming out of the pipe/airbox and into the engine block. i was told by a friend, and have seen one in his car, that i can attach an itty bitty filter to the engine and it'll do its function just as fine

(sorry if i'm using incorrect vocabulary, i'm not exactly a car enthusiast and barely began working on my camry)

1. what is that itty bitty filter thing called?

2. anybody have any experience with it? i'd like your opinions please

i wouldnt connect breather filter to there, i would just run a tube to the side of your intake like it is now ... most aftermarket intakes come with a place for that (and extra tubing)

its basically there for crankcase ventilation, i believe

i'm trying to go the cheap route and don't want to buy aftermarket parts lol.
i was going to buy about a foot of 3" aluminum tubing, cut it to size, and fit it between my stock filter box, and the... (intake manifold?)

and the reason im asking about the breather filter is because it seems it'll cost some money to weld a nozzle onto the side of an aluminum pipe... i'm wondering if the filter attachment will do its job as expected, or if i should invest into a customized aluminum pipe with the side nozzle.

I believe that is the PCV(positive crankcase ventilation) valve. Your only options there would be to leave it as is or install an oil catch can between it and the intake tube.

How inexpensive are you trying to go? The reason I ask is because I got my intake off of Ebay for cheap with everything needed! Including the hose going from the intake tube to the crankcase vent on the valve cover.

under 40$

those curved tubes won't work in my car.
and i'm not planning on using a cone filter; will keep stock air filter box. i think my '00 camry is already CAI, minus that blasted intake silencer or whatever slowing down airflow.

i'm not sure if i want to attach a breather filter, that thing looks like a piece of junk lol.
