I have to replace my '92 hood. I'm going with a CAPA hood for $120 (I heard this is a better hood). My paint code is 6M1 Dark Green. I know I have to paint the bottom and top. What choices do i have in type of paint. I know the car is base / clear coat. But it has 170k miles. I'm looking at cheap & decent. Is a single stage enamel a good choice or should I go with base & clear??? And how much paint would I need???

I am assuming a pre primed metal surface. this method will be done in about a week, I prefer alot of drying/curing time before I put the part on the car.
You will need a clean area, plastic drop sheet the area around your work... not really for dust, but more for over-spray. I use cardboard like a large oven cardboard box. paint the inside first, you can use it for practice.
Get an organic vapour filter mask, half mask is usually fine.
Wash with vinegar and water dry with acetone or lacquer thinner and lint free cloth, then spray a mist of paint 10 inches above and see how that works. let it dry according to the re coat times.
Do same for outside, you may want to let it dry first, wet sand and wash before base colour re coat this time. Do not wet sand and wash befor clear coat or else you lose the metallic flake effect.

For paint suggestions, go to an auto paint store and have them make you that colour of paint in a spray can. They will give you the right kind.

rattle can doesnt come out real well IMO,l even if its done in a paint booth. if you can, try to rent an air compressor and paint gun and apply that way. personally id want to do base and clear, but that does add a step.

also i see ur a little north. so with either paint, make sure that the area you are doing this in has good ventilation to keep overspray and fumes from the work area and make sure that it is heated. your gonna want the temp between about 60 and 80 while painting.

I'm Not painting the car myself. It's going to be painted in a paint booth. I'm asking about the type of paint to use. Will a single stage look Ok & about how paint is needed to paint the bottom & top.

oh ok. well if done well its impossible to tell the differance between single stage paint and clear coat. one advantage to clear coat is its easier to get scratches out of then paint.
