factory alarm probs

I wrecked the car 10 years ago and had to do extensive front end work on it. Since the accident the alarm system seems to arm itself and I normally don't notice until I get back into the car and the horn starts doing its thing. I don't have the remote anymore so I flip the switch on the kick panel to shut it up. Now to my question...Is it possible to remove or disable the system all together and still have the vehicle operate? I don't need the alarm and I am really tired of getting that nice surprise at 5 am in the morning.
