Just installed car alarm that unlocks and locks my doors and notice issue with lock

Ok.

I got this remote starter/alarm/door unlocker thing. So that I can do keyless entry on my 1999 camry. I wired it properly and connected it to the unlock and lock wires to my door lock system. Essentially it's connected directly to the wires that run to the rocker swtich on the driver side. I notice the following weird with the Camrys. If you are sitting in the car and unlock the door with the rocker switch and while having the door open push the rocker switch to lock the door and then close it. You can't unlock the door with the rocker switch unless you manuall unlock the door from the inside. It's a little problem becuase if I happen to leave my car and while having my door open hit the button on my transmitter to lock my car then close the door I won't be able to unlock it unless I manually unlock it with the key. This seems like some sort of weird security setting I don't know about???

I noticed this on my 95, but I don't any keyless entry. It is just a security setting built into the car so that if someone tries to steel your car they can't just stick a coat hanger in there and press unlock. I don't know if there is any way to disable this, so just use your remote to lock it from now on.

I has this happen when i did mine. I jsut ran a wire over to the passenger side and taped that green wire and all works well. Its all about the drivers dooe having to be unlocked in order for the doors to work. Not if you go over to the passenger side. Worked great.

This may be a stupid question but did you solder every wire, or did you just use connectors? I just purchased a remote start / alarm too and was wondering what to do because that will be a big PITA. Thanks!

I used 3m quickconnects. They say your not supposed to use them but they work great and are extreamly convienet. Soldering is a Pain. Also if your not got at it you can't make a good connection.

Right now I can open all the doors and lock them and pop my trunk lid remotley on my toyota...

Just Fixed It

I just fixed it. There are two sets of wires that Unlock and Lock the door on the Camrys.

There is an Kick panel on the driver's side that comes off. It contains a white plug. There are two green wires. They RUN DIRECLTY TO THE ROCKER SWITCH. I was connected directly to those. It works however I encounter that problem I just described. I was mislead when I used this website.

http://www.geocities.com/ycartf/index.html?

This person used the two green wires to connect his alarm unit.

I called the company who manufactures my remote starter/alarm unit. The Correct wires that are supposed to be used are the ones on the orange connector on the bottom of the fusebox they are a drk blue and drk blue/white wires. I re-tapped into those connections instead and it works perfeclty regardless of how the door was previouslly locked.

I think I'm going to email that guy so that he makes the change....
