3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am new here and would like to share to all my Toyota Camry 1993 model, first of the wide bodies car. This car means alot to me, I have been working on her for the past 3 years, doing everything from the body kit, paint, mags, sound system, and now the turbo conversion.
Here are some pics of my car, they are not the best but they will do for now, the car is begging for a wash and wax...
The turbo conversion went ok, still not complete, its been 7 weeks now of pain and stress! But should be all good by this week. Just having oil problems at the moment.
I bought the body kit from sydney, the mags on the car are XHP 18,235,40, the screen is a single din kenwood with a hideaway unit under the passenger seat. And the sound system is full JBL GTO Touring series sounds great.
All is well and here are the pictures, any questions please ask.
yeah we have had it running and did a test tune/drive and we blew the head gasket, we now have a clean head and a de-compression plate (1.5mm) so this has reduced the compression down to around 8.8 (around the mark of the 3SFE turbo) just need to get a reducer for the oil line, needs to be around 1mm inlet feed to the turbo, being a Garrett Gt25 it is oil and water cooled.
Not my best personal preference but it hits boost at 1800RPM so good quick boost (only looking at boosting 8psi)
Ummmm not much else I can say at this time, I need to fix up all the wiring in the boot it has to be the worst install I have ever done, and its my own car!
But that will be done when the car is all running, when we are over all the bugs it will be dyno tuned, and then mod plated, found out that we have to convert the rear brake system to disc, thats going to be fun woot!
Are there any toyotanation.com stickers for sale ? I would love to put some on the car, I don't know how to go about it so if someone can fill me into as to what I have to do...
But yeah.....overall it has been a good learning curve for myself and two other guys that have been helping me alot.
Thanks for the interest and please keep it comming
looking good...and at least a blown headgasket is a relatively small problem on the 5sfe since they're a dime a dozen...good call on the lower compression though...
as for the turbo, why did you choose to start out with such a small one? you know that you're going to end up going bigger later..... :
but regardless, keep us posted on the progress for sure...then dyno charts and vids. How much are you expecting power-wise? 160-170whp or so? considering the size of the turbo, it should be a pretty good useable powerband though as long as it doesn't drop off too much on the top end
