fuses keep blowing

i got a customers car and it seems to have a short. its a 96 camry. the problem is the gauge fuse and the stop fuse keeps blowing out after 20 min. or less. dont know where this short is coming from. can anyone help.

One of the other posters mentioned something about where the wires pass over the steering column being a not-too-uncommon spot for wires to wear down and short out. That may be the case here if you're lucky. Other than that it would just be a tedious process of isolating a short. Look closely where wires pass through metal and where they flex (trunk lid hinge for tail lights maybe). And, before you do that it would help to know that you can duplicate the circumstances with the engine off. If it is an intermittent thing you're in for a long job.

I would start by checking the loom of wires inside the trunk, by the driver's side trunk hinge. They have a tendancy to fray and break from all the flexing they are exposed to, as the trunk is constantly opened and closed. Open up that loom of wires and look for frayed or broken wires. Repair as necessary.
