96 Camry, 4cyl...Plug Gap, Dist cap access?

Two questions...

1. What is the recommended plug gap for 96 4cyl Camry.

2. Hard to see second(bottom) screw holding Dist Cap. Must the air
cleaner box and intake mainifold plenum be removed to access or is there a better way?

Appreciate the advice...

Check your owner's manual or look for a sticker under the hood for the proper spark plug gap.

As for removing the distributor cap, you will get better access by removing the air box and it's tubing leading to the throttle body. It can be done without removing it; it's just a bit harder. It's really your choice. You do not have to remove the intake plenum. I hope you meant intake tubing and just mistyped the word plenum.

Thank you for responding. I checked the sticker under the hood, no mention of spark plu gap, only valve clearances. Strange??? Did find the owners manual, listed .043 as gap.

Yes, I meant the large rubber tube connected between the intake/throttle body and the air cleaner box. Upon closer examination I notice the pipe is cracked at the connect point of the throtlte body side. Just ordered one from local dealer,$91.00 for the part. So guess I'll be removing the pipe anyway...will change the cap and wires at that time.

i have 152,000 on this 96 camry, very well maintained, runs wonderfully, now noticing a oil leak, might be oil pump area. Guess that's next thing to have done. Is this a big expense to have resolved? Doubtful I'd tackle that myself.

I welcome your advice and estimate of what that might cost to fix. Fyi, I already had timing belt and water pump replaced by Toyota dealer a few years ago(approx 35K milies since) as preventive maintainence so that should not be an issue. Appreciate the advice...

The oil pump seal is under oil pressure when the engine is running. If you think it is these seal, remove tire, start the engine and look at the area under the pump for oil. If confirmed start checking your oil daily as the leak can increase.

To change the seal the pump would need to be removed, this requires removing the timing belt.

Other possible areas for leaks are valve cover, camshaft and crankshaft pulley.
