Sooo.... What?

I woke up this morning around 6:30 for school. I hop in for the mile drive. Turn the ignition and... *CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK* dead battery :[ So i got a ride, came home right as my brother got home. So we decided to go jump it. That wouldnt work after 30 minutes of trying. So as we were just standing there looking at the engine, i noticed something.

I got my car back from toyota of orlando like this. only had it back for 3 days.

but then when i connected it... has some wierd intake tube.

the overall look.

Would getting an air/coolant mixture be bad for the radiator? Would this possibly cause something to be wrong with shifting?

well u definatly dont want air in the coolant system but thats just the over flow tube i believe. it looks liek they just forgot to put it back on there but check and see if the collant level is ok to be sure. but even low coolant or air in the coolant wouldnt cause shifting problems. waht kind of problems are you experiencing?

"If the coolant heats up during engine operation, coolant can escape through a pressurized filler cap." Pg 1-8 of the Haynes manual. I should read more.

The shifty problem is as follows...
It has a hard time shifting from 3rd to 4th.
It hits about 5.5k rpm in 3rd gear and still doesnt shift.
Now i know its not a coolant problem.
Anyone know?

I assume you had work done to the car at the toyota place? What did you have done?

Maybe they left it on there during some kind of service? last time I checked, I don't remember seeing a tube like that on there.

They forgot to put the cap back on. Its not an intake tube, its the opposite. Most cars have them unless it has been pulled off/fallen off by accident. The tube is just to direct steam away towards the bottom of the car (somewhere harmless) in case you overheat. There is no damage leaving that off would possibly cause. Nothing to worry about there. Just put it back on and point it down towards the ground.
