Think Toyota says the filter doesn't need to be changed. You can drain and fill or you can remove the pan and clean or replace the filter. If you remove the pan, you'll probably want a new gasket. Mine came with the filter for about $25 at a parts store.

Draining the pan will get about 2 quarts out. I believe my 95 I-4 holds about 5.5 quarts so you need to drain & refill about 4 times to get mostly new fluid in. I try to do it at every other oil fill and figure that way I change all the fluid about every 30,000 miles. I change (or clean) the filter at 100,000 intervals. My differential is supposed to hold about 1.5 quarts. I refill that every 30,000 miles. (It's a good idea to make sure that the fill plug unscrews before you drain the differential.) I do not believe in power flushing the transmission.
