I believe you have to remove the outside lens cover to replace the tail light bulb(s). Open the trunk and you will see 2 screws on the side if the lens cover. Remove them and push the lens cover to the outside of the car. The first time I did this I thought I was going to break the lens, but it eventually came out. I put grease on the 2 prongs that hold the lens in before I reinstalled it. Hopefully that will make getting the lens out the next time a bit easier.
so there is only 2 screw holding it in? cause on the right side of the lens/housing, it doesnt seem to budge and not sure if something is holding it in place.
i wont get to work on the car for another 2 weeks so just trying to get as much infos as i can.

there is a plastic clip in the trunk right where the side marker is......it holds a metal peg. either remove that clip, or just pull hard, make sure you take out all the screws before you start pulling....

^+1 on ska8ersublime. pull the tail light screws out from the body and wiggle the assembly while pressing it towards the outside of the car. There may be two plastic clips. I think that you can see part of the clips if you pull the carpet away from the side of the trunk by the side lights.

Often, it's the loose screw between the steering wheel and the driver's seat that needs to be fixed first!
