3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It drones way too much and resonates quite a bit throughout the cabin. The trunk area has been sound deadened already and it still is too loud for people inside the car. It sounds great outside, but resonates a lot in the cabin.
Other then mashing up more sound deadening, I'm looking for exhaust that would be more quiet. If worse comes to worse, I'll settle with a borla or just OEM replacement.

Do you have a cat-back setup or is it just the muffler? I've had 2 magnaflows (axle-backs), both of which were too quiet so I got a cat-back setup instead. I sold an oval 3 chambered magnaflow to a member and he said it was too quiet. I'm still trying to sell the second one (it's oval and straight-through) but I don't know how loud it would be on the V6. Let me know if you're interested though, I have it sitting in the garage.
i say borla, they are just great mufflers period. this may sound weird but ive experianced more interior resonance with a resonator then without, but this has only been on V6s. not sure how the i4 would respond.

I was expecting the same thing since resonators tend to make the exhaust note smoother and deeper. It would probably drone more inside the car for that reason, but I'm not completely sure.
You need a good pre muffler welded in before your exhaust tip. If the exhaust has a free flow all the way until your outlet the mufflers sound deadening will do nothing, but if you have a muffler with pipe after it the sound deadening will be able to work better.
I got rid of my magnaflow for the same reason.

Yeah, I still do have the stock resonator and stock cat on it. I know removing the resonator would cause raspyness, but shouldn't it make the exhaust louder in general? If it does decrease interior resonance, that'd be great.

Just leave the resonator in. I put my old Magnaflow back on and the car is quiet, almost as quiet as OEM. I have 2.25" piping with a resonator all the way to the muffler. Not loud at all. I'll be putting the Apexi back on during the summer once I can find a silencer for it. I'm just using this setup to pass an inspection test.
