Half shaft removal

I got a 93' Camry attempted to remove passenger side half shaft and replace everything went well until I went to pull it out of the transmission. Seems the intermediate bearing it rusted in the cradle, lock bolt and snap ring are removed any ideas how this can be removed?

lots of luck and a sledgehammer

long story short, the method that the shop manual gives about being able to "slide" the half-shaft out is a myth for just about any car that's been driven out of the factory and has seen any sort of salt/water/winter, etc.

some people have gotten lucky after spraying penetrating oil for a number of days/weeks and then hitting it from behind with a sledgehammer until i comes out....but most of us...either take it to a mechanic to drop the subframe and ease it out a different way, or pull the entire engine/tranny out to part it

the sledgehammer works for some....but then I'd change the carrier bearing for sure as well as inspect the differential for any damage since the pressure will be going on the half-shaft at an angle and may damage things with enough force and vibration

long story short....good luck

If you're lucky about 2 hours of cuss'n, hammer'n, pry'n and soak'n with PB Blaster. If you get it out use anti-seize on re-assembly.

here's a pretty good site...

...although it is not a how-to.

It's about removing a seized bearing on the passenger side halfshaft using Kroil and a Silver Slapper.

http://standardmischief.com/blog/200...netrating-oil/

here's what a "silver slapper" looks like.

Haven't tried it on a half-shaft but my dad would make his own 'puller' using one end of a chain wrapped around the part and the other around something heavy. (Concrete block for example) Then you can throw or rapidly tug on the weight which takes up the slack and 'jerks' the part. (like a dog reaching the end of his leash) Same principle as the "silver slapper".

i.e. slide hammer....

all I would say is that you would need one helluva slide hammer to get that thing out...
