3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 1994 camry V6, recently purchased, with only 56,000 miles on the clock (verified). It is sluggish, and returns no more that 12-14 miles to the British Gallon, whereas my old 1992 V6, which I still have, with 177,000 miles, outperforms it in all respects.
There is no discernable mechanical reason for the poor performance of the newer V6, and the only difference between the two vehicles is the exhaust system, a unknown make of stainless exhaust, allegedly for a Camry on the newer car, and the true Toyota system on the older and more efficient vehicle.
Opinions, please. Should I switch the exhaust systems? Could this be the source of my problem? I am not looking for(too much)speed (Where can you use it in this law-ridden island?), just a better ride at a price a Pensioner can afford. Thanks for any advice.

also- hard to check...but knock sensors on the 1994 camry (presuming you have the 1mzfe instead of the 3vzfe) are extreme sensitive and will affect both performance and gas mileage
