4th Generation Throttle Body Cleaning

I have a 97 Camry with the 2.4 litre engine. I was trying to clean the throttle body after reading several of the posts here ( great pics on some of the posts by the way) but after loosening the screw attaching the rubber housing to the throttle body, I couldn't get the two separated.

Do I just need to pull harder to get them apart? I know the rubber on the housing has gotten a bit hard with age and heat under the hood and that may have caused it to be a bit tougher to pull apart.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Maybe use a wood or plastic pick (end of a small paint brush etc.) to pry the rubber up and spray silicone to loosen it. Then work your way around? Just an idea.

The rubber gets glued to the throttle body neck over time. As Dave's suggests use something that won't gouge the aluminum to work the intake hose off. Not sure about silicone, it can have bad results with some rubber compounds. A little WD40 would work. I use a little WD40 on the throttle neck before re-assembly to ease removal.

If you haven't already, try turning the rubber intake hose to try and loosen it up.

^ +1. Try twisting the hose to break it free of the throttle body housing. If you so use the WD-40 to help break it loose as suggested by some one above, be sure to wipe it all off before reinstalling everything. You don't want to induce WD-40 inside the engine so the engine will have to burn it. That just may destroy your O2 sensors. They are not tollerant of things not meant to be burned inside the engine.

Gently use ice pick-type tool under the rubber edge to break the seal. A better way with less risk of tearing the seal is to try compressed air. Shove the air gun under the seal as much as you can and use short blasts to loosen the seal. I used to work at a bicycle store and we used to use compressed air to install bicycle hand grips or to take them off without destroying them.

After you got it loose i'd smear a little rubber grease or at least some silicone spray on the seal so hopefully it doesnt get stuck again.
