what method do u guys recommend???

hey..recently i've been having some starting problems and after talking to Basil at T-Lex..he told me its the starter solenoid.

here are my choices:

1) get a rebuild starter
2) get a used starter
3) replace the starter solenoid (get part from toyota)

I talk to Basil and he recommended replacing the starter solenoid and getting the part from toyota. he says that theres after market parts but they are from taiwan and china and will not last long. He doesnt recommend getting a rebuild starter cause he said that it will not last long b/c the parts are made in china and taiwan.

The starter solenoid at toyota is around $80. plus labour
the rebuild is $110 (original but rebuild) plub labour

what do u guys think? im thinking of doing the rebulid starter cause what if i replace the starter solenoid and something else goes then i have to spend more money.

any suggestions????

why not just get a rebuilt starter from toyota!!!! you know we rebuild those damn things... or you can just take your old one apart and clean it. what is it doing? making a grinding type noise? if it was my car i would replace the whole thing and not just one part, and never deal with it again

i bought a rebuilt startr from toyota. even though it was more expensive to buy a rebuilt factory one, it was offset because it was such an easy install.

I have had good luck having my OEM starter rebuilt by an auto electrical rebuilder in my area. This one came highly recommended to me by a professional Mazda tech. He told me that if I was not going to use Toyota OEM, I would do better having my original one rebuilt by these people. Check your local phone book for an "auto electrical rebuilder" in your area.

Alot of talk about rebuild...
Starter solenoid, does it click strongly, but the starter not want to turn?
search Starter Contacts... and at Yota tech there is a great DIY,

It would be worth your while to look at your contacts, the part is like $3 CDN at dealer.

The starter is pretty easy to remove, since it is on top. I've done it before but I don't remember where the bolts are exactly.
