1993 Camry Cooling System problem

I have a 1993 Camry 4cyl automatic and i just installed a new radiator flushed and re-filled the cooling system. I believe that i have air locked in the system as i am getting very poor heat now? What's the best way to remove the trapped air now. I have tried running the car to warm with the radiator cap off and squeezing the upper radiator hose which seem to have helped some, but i'm still not getting full heat. I also have noticed that when the car cools off with the radiator cap installed that the upper radiator hose collapses until you release the pressure through the radiator cap.

There are some posts on this so a search may turn up something else. Think parking uphill, cap off the radiator, heater on full heat, run until warm (should see the coolant really flowing) and squeeze top hose is what I remember.

^ +1. What Dave said. I would let the car idle like this for at least 45 minutes. Then add coolant as necessary and replace the radiator cap. If that upper hose is still collasping, replace that hose.

Look down the neck of the radiator. Remember, the cap is off during this procedure.

There may be a second problem. I don't believe that an air lock would explain the hose collapsing. That sounds more like the radiator cap or the tube to the overflow tank or the overflow tank itself has a blockage preventing the radiator to vent when it cools down.

I don't believe this would explain the lack of heat but I don't believe the lack of heat explains the collapsed hose either.

By the way, what is your temp gauge doing during all of this?
