3rd Generation Removing the Stock CAI

It's been awhile since I've been here at TN and the forums have changed a bit... anyway, I decided that instead of lurking again, I minus well post something worthwhile.

Recently, my intake tube decided to break into two pieces on me (it cracked before and got worse after my engine mounts decided to quit working), so I got a new one and figured, I'd document my process. I was also reading the Free Mod Series Part II and decided to give it a try. The sound is pretty awesome, but I didn't notice any low-end power. I also took a shortcut which you'll see, but didn't want my mpg to suffer so I put it back. Anyway, the pictures are horrible and taken in order of installation, but for the sake of the thread, I'll post it in order of removal. On with the show!

Take off the tighteners from the intake tube from both sides, then unscrew the bolt that’s circled in the picture that's too hard to see:

Unclip the Filter Box from the top and bottom (don’t forget to remove the temperature sensor like I did, it’s somewhere in the blue circle):

Next, remove the bottom of the Filter Box by unscrewing all the bolts:

Then, remove the Fuse Boxes to reveal the part of the intake that goes right under them by unscrewing the red bolts (yellow optional) and unclipping the smaller fuse box:

Move the Fuse Boxes out of the way and you’ll see the part to remove. Unscrew the bolt and wiggle the son’o’bitch out (you may need to move the battery out of the way too if you need the room):

As you can see, I didn't remove the bottom CAI part, just the top part right before the Filter Box so it's more of a "shortcut". I'm also more of a sleeper fan so I didn't think the performance gain did the sound any justice. Anyway, that's my .02. Hopefully you all find this useful because I did a light search on CAI and intake and they all seem to have removed all the upper parts already.

Take Care Everyone!
