a short black corner diy

hell this may have been covered elsewhere, and after reading (and laughin) someone or lots of someone give me some helpfull advice on the lenses so i dont screw em up when i do this for real..

black corners-

*****step one- i looked up and said to bake for 10 minuites at 200 degrees, in reality it took about 40 minutes over all, and they cooled down so fast the lenses popped on me...anyways i didnt save pics of this step..

*****step two- tape the reflector 'dish' around the bulb opening all the way to the edge, make sure you tape it well- i used normal masking for the edges and 1 inch for the fill in (note next time i will also sand the rest of the reflector, since id fubar'd the lenses i was just interested in the look)

*****step three- paint it, first used som high heat paint, decided it wasnt looking good so i switched to some killz craft paint flat black, about 5 coats in all (agains next time ill sand and prime with the killz primer)

*****step four- untape and admire

a few pics with lenses set in place, one with and one without the orange reflectors...

oh yea and since watching paint dry sucks, here is a picture of my drive way with my cam, roomies 93 inslugra, and in the garage is sons 93 civic ex that we are putting a short block in...

anyways as i said there are a few things i would change before i attempt this again because when i do it again ill be doing the corners and the headlights... i also need some helpfull advice on getting the lenses off without breaking them

i wanted to see it both ways, and yes i liked the reflector on better, breaks up all that black, it would look ok if it werent for the obvious change in the look of the lens, but with that window ya gotta have something there...

I was thinking about doing something similar. At first, I was just going to tint the corners but if this is a fairly easy project, I guess I could try this instead. I only have one set of the stock corners to practice on though..

all i can say is set the oven to 200, heat em for 10 - 15 minutes (the 200 is supposed to be too low a temp to melt anything but the glue) use a utility knife to get the corner started and gently work around it, if it gets a little difficult, re heat. all of my problems happened on that top and back lip thats rolled forward...if i did something wrong im hoping someone can jump in and give us a better idea what to do...

after looking at the clears on the car now, i think newer housings may be the answer, the glue on the 11 or 12 year old stockers wasnt so much glue anymore as a weld, where as the clear i have look like butyl glue in there, so they may be much easier to get apart...

4th Generation

diggin up this thread from the past...but...

did you notice on the corner light that there is no lip on the housing (that holds the lens) on either the bottom or inside? (see pics - yes, its a broken corner)

So wouldn't it be easiest to just heat up all the glue and attempt to slide out the lens that way? or is it not that simple?

I'm planning on blacking them out and I don't want to break em.

Oh and after you repainted them, I'm assuming you used glue to reseal them, but what kind?
