Air bag lamp

The Haynes book tells you that if the battery is disconnected for any lenght of time the air bag lamp must be reset by the dealer using a special tool. Is there anyway around this????

Never experienced this on a Gen 3 or read anything stating this would happen.

If for some reason the light comes on it can be reset without going to the dealer although it does require going through a proceedure.

I have a 1990 Mazda Miata. It has a driver's side airbag. I store it every Winter with the battery removed from the vehicle. I've never had any problems with this car's airbag when reinstalling the battery in the Spring and getting the car going. I'm not sure if there is any difference with Toyotas.

Yes, the airbag uses a different ecu from your main car and that error code does not get erase from simply losing power. Toyota does have the tool to reset the light but they are going to charge up to like $100 bucks to do something that takes less then 4 seconds.
Here is a home made tool that works just like the Toyota tool, the only issue here is that its for a gen 5 (90-93) Celica and I'm not sure what pins are for the Camry. http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/airbagtool.htm

If the SRS light is on, there is a problem, thats why it;s on. Get the code as to why it;s on, fix it, and it will go off.

I had the battery out of my '94 for about 4 hours last week, no problem. I also was scratching my head over the Haynes warning (i have the same book too)

however google is my friend and I found this

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Toyota-Re...rbag-light.htm

it refers back to pdfs here that are not available. Here too, google is your friend, although an untested solution is already at the page I linked to.
