4th Generation Brake Issue

I have a 2001 Camry LE. I don't know how to explain the situation, i will try my best.
I have new brakes in the car but i have to press hard on the brake pedal to stop the car. When i press the brake pedal i feel there's a void meaning when i press the pedal and feeling that brakes are actually applied.

any suggestions on what the problem might be, thanks in advance.

This shouldnt be hard to fix, there are a couple of things that could be the problem. When you say a "void" in the brake pedal action that means that at some point during its travel it doesnt press the brakes. And that probably means that the brakes just need to be bled of air, by you or by a shop.
More important is to ask why they need bleeding, if no one has worked on the brakes then its probably a good idea to check for brake fluid leaks too. If your fluid level is ok then you dont have a leak (obviously).

some other important things to check that could cause this:
-worn out or broken brake hose that is swelling and bulging under pressure and needs to be replaced
-stuck disk brake caliper piston (need to replace the caliper if this is the case)
-worn out master cylinder and/or master needs to be bled of air.

Thanks marc780,

I followed your advise and bled the brake fluid without any problem. The issue hasn't been resolved but here's what my observation when i was bleeding the system.

The void is in the first part; when i brake i can hear a clicking sound which i am assuming is related to brake light switch then you can feel that brakes are actually working. I was reading more about it and i could be wrong but it seems like the first void is the related to PEDAL FREEPLAY and that might need adjustment.
