my camry won't start

I have a 1998 toyota camry and when i just tried to start it the car alarm started blaring and the engine wouln't start. i know that it has the little red botton buy the steering column that is supposed to shut it off so the engine wont start, i don't remember pushing it. does anyone know how to reset this anti theft thing? this has happened once before and i found how to do it but like an idiot i thought it wouldn't happen again. so please if someone knows to how to reset it please tell me.

Same thing happened to me with a 99 Camry, put key in ignition and turn to the on position (just before where you crank the car) and then push the red valet button until it stops flashing; this apparently will reset the alarm and then you should be able to start the car. The red button should be lit and not flash. I had to replace the battery and found out about the anti-theft feature, never had any problems with it before. Reset the alarm and it should work.
