What To Do?

So I just left the mechanic after having done a diagnostic on my '94 Camry v6 xle (my check engine light was on and my O/D light has been flickering on and off). They said I needed to replace my shift solenoid....and it'll be about $700. Im pretty clueless...its NOT something Im trying to mess with myself....but Im for damn sure not trying to spend $700...I found the part on autozone its ABOUT $100...he said labor would be about $300...

Its also the problem of my horrible gas mileage

What's going on? What to do?
Thanks
peace peace

You could always call some other trany shops just to compare prices.

It would be interesting to know what the error code was. I am rather picky about having a transmission shop work on my transmission, not just any mechanic, but if a mechanic is honest and conscientious he will know if he can do it or not.
