4th Generation Fuel Pump or Injectors

Ok so for the past month or so ive had problems with starting and ive got a new battery and its not the starter because its cranking and then shuts off, my rpms randomly jump and in order to start my engine i have to pump my gas peddle a couple times which is unusual considering the fact that i have a 2000 v6 camry that is fuel injected correct me if im wrong, and its getting harder to accelerate, so my question is how do you know or what are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump and injectors???????

any input greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Your questions are too broad. when a fuel pump dies, it usually leaves you thumping the gas tank with a hammer to get home. the likelihood of injectors all going bad at once is slim. what else could go wrong in an efi system to cause a cranking no-start? everything. coolant temp sensor, low fuel pressure, stuck egr, bad mass air flow sensor (but I think your car uses a MAP), plugged air filter, the list goes on. easiest way to find it these days is by looking at live data from the ecm using a scan tool. You might be able to borrow one from a parts store, but you'd have to write everything down to tell us, because live data is over the heads of most diy'ers.

it could be one number of many things. you should try disconnecting the battery (both terminals) and let it sit for like 2-4 minutes. then try to start it. I mean its hard for us to tell, it could be poor maintenance( did I spell that wrong?). but to make it more helpful, check your plugs. all six of them. I know its pain in the ass but I beat its never been done. you got to use like three wobble joints and three 6" extensions and wrap it behind the intake manifold to get to them. could be a fuel filter ( that would cause the chance of low pressure). and if or when, those don't work then reset the computer by disconncting the battery and go try the obd-2 that 96camrysport is talking about. then you tell us or you'll know what you need. good luck.

At some point you will need to start you will need to start running some tests. There are several fuel pump tests but a pressure check is probably the best. They make some indicators that light up when the fuel injectors are getting a proper signal. That's pretty easy. You can actually feel them while they are working (that's a lot cheaper).

Initially, I would suggest that you clean "Kep's Trilogy" (do a search) and run Sea Foam through the brake vacuum line and the fuel tank and see if that helps.

4th Generation

I've seafoamed the car like 500 miles ago through the vacuum line and dumped the other half in the fuel tank, used lucas injector and fuel system cleaner which helped a little and for a while but the problem still exists, im not sure if the injectors have been checked but the car is properly maintanenced and I take it to the dealer when needed and have found a mechanic who is a friend of a friend who will probably check it out soon..........but if there are any more suggestions let me know thanks, i have narrowed down to 3 or 4 things, either the fuel pump, a injector, or fuel filter i guess but still not sure but something with the fuel system
