No More Camry For Me!

Well another Gen 3 is gone here... I finally found a suitable BMW 2002 after a bit of searching. Its a 74 with an M10 in it from a 320i along with 320i limited slip diff, radiator and alternator. It feels like the cam is upped to a 284 as the engine is pretty tame under 3,500 RPM, but over that, its a rocket. Even with the stock suspension, the car actually out handles (while still riding better) than my camry with it's sport springs and tokico struts. This car is a blast to drive and its FAST!

No no, the BMW 2002 is the model name. The year is 1974. They are fun tiny little cars.

Yeah its one of the most enjoyable cars to drive that I personally have ever driven. I've seen people but the S14 engines in there, and while its actually not that tough to do, I really think its unnecessary. These cars weigh about 2100 lbs. and its VERY easy to get the M10 engine up to 150hp. With a car like this, 150hp is PLENTY and you'd be surprised how fast it is.

As a side note, the M10 engine is actually legendary in the F1 world. In the early 80s, BMW used the block as a basis for a turbo charged F1 engine that produced approximately 1,500hp. There is so much you can do with this platform.

My car looks pretty ratty, but even still, it gets tons of attention and always brings out a peace sign, thumbs up, or smiles from other drivers.

To be clear, the car is a 1974 BMW 2002. 2002 is the model number and is BMW's original sports sedan. Its immediate predecessor was the 320i and the cars share many similarities.

New, in 1974, the car was probably under $3500. Expensive at the time, but, today, the non-TII or (rare) turbo models sell for less than most Honda Civics.
