4th Generation 2.2 Rebuild Advice

Hello all,
I picked up a 1997 Camry LE "cheap"(5 bills), I suspect main bearings are shot, (170,xxx) oil change shows "sparkles" non-magnetic. Oil pressure good till warm-up, then oil light(red oil can) flickers and stays on. Good news, just had a head, water pump, timing belt, and idlers replaced less than 500 miles ago.

1. Where is the best place to buy rings, pistons if needed, bearings and gaskets?
2. Where can I find Torque specs for Head, mains, and everything else?
3. Are there any tricks or special tips I should know before tearing into the 2.2?
4. Rack and pinion is leaking on the drivers side, best place to get a rebuild kit or overhauled unit?

Thanks again!

at 170k I'd recommend ignoring the reciprocating assembly and just replacing your main and rod bearings. You can do that without a lift or pulling the motor. You'd take off the oil pan, the pickup tube, the counterbalance shafts, and replace the bearings one at a time. Otherwise, it's yank the motor, strip it down to a block, get the cylinders honed, pay for new pistons, rods, and everything else, and put the motor back together.

'course, if the crank's junk, you'll find yourself doing that anyway.

torque specs can be had from a Chilton's manual.

For parts, I like NAPA or WorldPac. Or call the dealer about the rack, see if they have a kit.

I agree with 96camrysport, any auto parts store can supply parts. straightforward like any other motor rebuld. check compression and if acceptable just do bearing and drive it.
also replace oil pump since you will be down there.
