4th Generation Is the 2.2L an interference motor?

Does anyone know the repercussions of a broken timing belt? Do the valves hit the pistons?

Timing belt

I have a 2001 Camry with the 2.2 L engine. How many miles have you gone without changing the belt? What's the site's record?

No the valves don't hit the pistons. My water pump locked up on my old camry and it was fine after a TB change.

I checked out some web sites and they all say that the 5s-fe is not interference so were all safe.

For the I4 guys, CHANGE THE BELT EVERY 60k MILES!

For the V6 guys, EVERY 90k MILES

5SFE I4 is non interfearence, belt breaks, your fine.

/end discussion

Revised I4 belts (Marked HBNR or HSBN-R) Highly saturated butyl nitrile material will give you 90 k miles or 150 k Kms of use.
