strange problem/ Runs rough or possibly misfiring...

1992 camry 4cyl 160k - I drive from columbus to atlanta a couple of times a month. last couple times the car seems to have a problem when stopped at lights all the time and when traveling below 55mph after driving long distance at around 70-80 mph. It seems like the engine is going to cut out ...kind of sputters or misfires not really sure how else to expain it. the rpms drop and then jump back up.

check the iac valve....if the iac isn't working properly, then the car can't hold an idle properly and the rpms will fluctuate. quite often this happens as well when the iac is overheated. it may need just a cleaning, or it may need to be replaced.

are you sure that it happens while the car is cruising as well??? because if it does....then it should do it at all speeds, regardless of how fast....especially for misfires.

that, and then you've got a major problem somewhere. maybe timing is off.

it wouldn't be a vacuum leak either, since vacuum leaks are really only a problem at idle and low low engine speeds
