Help with engine(possible seize)

97 toyo camry 4 cyl

Ok first off I has a slight oil leak and had to keep topping off the oil every 1500 miles or so. I forgot one time...well as i was driving i heard some knocking so i tried to get home and top it off with oil. After this i drove the car to the store and all was well. After leaving the store it started knocking again and the motor died. I tried to start it up and it would not do anything. I thought it might be a fuse or something. Anyway I tried to get a jump and still nothing. It tried to jump it off and it would not start. I left it there for a day, then all the sudden it started. I drove it home it was still knocking. After letting it sit a few weeks (didn't want to deal with it) I decided to clean the battery. The car started up fine!! I then went to change the oil and filter drove it around the block and it starting making a gargaling sound. and then it died again and now it will not start. anyone know what this is? please help i need this car as it got excellent gas mileage.

Your title says possible seize. Does it turn over when you try to start it?

ouch... yeah it isn't good. it may just be a lower end trouble like aforementioned. Luckily for you Camry engines aren't very much...

It does sound like your engine has seized and has severe internal damage. It's time for a new, rebuilt or salvage yard engine. The choice is really your's. You should decide which way to go based on how long you plan on keeping this car, the rest of the condition of the car, and of course your budget. If you plan on keeping this car for a while, I would go with at least a rebuilt engine. Remember, the labor will be the same whichever way you choose to go.

dang**** I have 215,000 miles on this car and the only problem I ever had was timing change and oil pump. I love this car, but can't afforrd a new engine and also can't afford to keep driving my truck 75 miles back/forth to work.
