Hi, newbie here. Just bought a 98 camry with 169K miles on it. Runs great. All APPEARS well. Anyway, the little indicator on the dash that tells of a burnt out light on the car is illuminated, but all the bulbs are lit. Any suggestions? Does the circuit work on resistance of the bulb or continuity only. Downloaded a factory manual, but doesn't really cover this. Any help, greatly appreciated.
BTW, the wife has a FULLY loaded 07 Camry Hybrid. Best car I've ever owned.
I just had this problem a couple weeks ago, the light would go on for a while and go off and then it stayed on but no lights were burned out. I put my car in a garage, turnout all the lights, and had some one test all the lights. The switch that turns on the dash light is real sensitive. One of my brake lights was not burned out, it was just dimmer than the rest, i replaced it and it fixed the problem. Hope i could help
Got the same problem...but I just yanked out the warning bulb
It is in fact very sensitive, in my case all my lights work but my left taillight wiring harness is all corroded!!! I don't even know why my bulb still works and when it's gonna die I don't even know how I will change it because the corrosion has soldered the bulb to the socket!
The light wasn't on today or yesterday, depending on when I decided to turn on the lights and check it out. Apparently, it is a resistance based circuit. Thanks for the inputs all. Love the car so far. Put 426 miles on it the last week and had to force $45 worth of gas into it at $3.12 a gallon. 29.6 mpg and it has 169K on it. NICE!
Thread jacking newbie here.
New to TN and to Toyota's
I have a 98 Camry and had the brake light indicator problem to. I learn that the resistance of the lights set's off the light. I had the third brake light burn out and set of the dash light. I put a 906 bulb in it because that was all I had at work. I found out it needs a 921. The light keep's coming on with the 906 bulb. A 906 bulb is .69 amp's and a 921 is 1.4 amp's so it thought a bulb was burnt out due to incorrect resistance of .71 amps.
Same issues with the dash' rear burn out and e-brake light indicator. I have replaced my rear 7443 with low wattage but very bright LED's, the resistance module might have thought the bulbs are absent or busted due to undetectable low power consumption. I have replaced all of the T10's with similar low power but brighter LED's on the dash cluster itself which might have caused the e-brake indicator to come out. Not a biggie for me though but there might be any adjustment to return the dash on clean visual slate?
I had the same problem. Replaced every brake bulb and then when I got to the 3rd brake light, it wasn't the exact bulb# that was called for in the manual. Make sure your bulbs are the correct numbered ones in the manual.
I've gone through all my lights sockets etc. and the indicator light stays on all the time the headlights are on. The light will go off sometimes if the headlight switch is off. As soon as I step on the brakes the indicator will light.
The car has what looks like an OEM Toyota spoiler with the 3rd brake lights in the unit.
The high mount light in the back window is not there and a color matched trim panel covers the location on the back deck. All the other Camrys I see on the road still have the high mount brake light, even with the spoiler!
Is it possible that the lights in the spoiler are causing this problem.
If so, are there replacement parts to repair what looks like LEDS?
My indicator light on my 93 will be on sometimes and others will not be on. I noticed once that a tail light on the drivers side was not lighting up and figured that might be what was causing my indicator to light up but when I went to verify which specific light was out a week or so later they were all working just fine yet the indicator was still lit up. I know I didn't simply imagine that tail light being out the one time that I noticed it.
Electrical type issues can be sooo frustrating....
I had the same problem. Replaced every brake bulb and then when I got to the 3rd brake light, it wasn't the exact bulb# that was called for in the manual. Make sure your bulbs are the correct numbered ones in the manual.
That was the problem with mine. Look in your owner's manual and replace the 3rd brake light with the EXACT# bulb it says. If not buy all new brake bulbs with the EXACT# for the bulbs. I did the brake lamps first and then the 3rd brake light which cured the light, HTH!
i have noticed that if you through puddles the burn out light and break light comes on. guess water is getting somewhere. i also noticed that the power steering has trouble when you go through water too. guess it is getting on the power steering belt? i just know if you are stopped and try and turn the wheel it don't want too and actually bounce back sometimes.
