3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok I knw I should post this in the lexus forum but I'm planning on using this for my camry. So, I have some 92 es300 low beam prjectors and is planning on retrofitting it to my camry. My ??? is are these good to use with HIDs
I believe those are halogen projectors, and aren't designed for HID's. If you are going through the trouble of retrofitting your headlights, I would use nicer stock-HID projectors.
the older es300 ones are halogen projectors, but their light output and cutoff is pretty good
if you have them and don't want to spend any more money on buying projectors, then just use them. Unless you're anal about your cutoff and coloring like some people out there (which, I don't understand, since in practicality and usability, it's often worse for driving) they'll do the job just fine

Acura TSX are probably the most popular projectors, and are designed for HID's. The projectors from the ES are similar to the ones on the Celica, and the Gen 6 Camry, where they are designed for halogen bulbs, although you could mod it a bit to help reduce glare.
I don't have plans to buy any projectors the es300 I got for like 2 bucks a piece and the junkyard so I'll just be using those. geoff5093 you mention modding the projectors, what type of mod are you talking about?

Then I would just use those. I'm not sure how the ES projectors are setup, but I know on the Gen 6 Camry there are flaps "squirrel spotters", which can easily be folded down to limit the amount of light that is reflected upwards, and keep the light concentrated more on the road.
on the aesthetics side, the squirrel spotters can be bent down or covered up
but for those who drive on pitch black roads or do interstate trips, I'd personally advise keeping them. they're there for a reason and they work. otherwise, it's literally light and the no light and that's it. not very good for driving really.

Oh so thats wat those things are for. I thought the manufacture just put it there for looks or something Would I get better light ouput with these projectors than the depo headlights?

They are there because with halogens, the light output is much lower and it isn't as blinding. HID projectors have a different style from their halogen couterparts.
