Noisy struts, noisy air pump ? Bigger car ?

We now have a really nice 1999 Camry XLE. 109,000 or so miles, 4 cylinder. Excellent machine.

I -think- the struts are noisy, or rather something in the front end doesn't sound good when going over speed breakers. The shafts are fine, motor mounts seem fine (no shimmy at idle) etc. The rear struts seem to be nice and quiet. Please forgive my search-foo for being abismal lately if this is easily found.

The air pump also sounds like hell. It did on the old 98 camry le also (4cyl) so it's not a concern of mine unlesss someone says it's going to self destruct and take the motor with it.

And completely unrelated, but odd: the 1999 seems like a bigger car than the 98 was. it has leather seating surfaces if that matters. it's an xle, but i don't think there is a difference in wheelbase of body. please correct me if i'm wrong. - so why does the 99 seem so much bigger ? (sitting inside, not driving)

Thanks TN's !

Check the front stabilizer bar bushings, worn bushings can make lots of noise when going over bumps.

Not sure what you mean by air pump, do you mean the air conditioner compressor. Does it make a rattling noise, if so may be the magnetic clutch in the pulley.
