What would TN do?

So...my beautiful 3rd gen is aging quite quickly. Here's a quick history:
I bought the car w/ 175-6xxx or so miles on the odo. No history, not any piece of paper. Just the proof of purchase and then the title. Being a broke ass college student is NOT fun as some of you may know. I was(still am) earning $150-200/wk which doesn't really let me get by. Anyway, back to the car. Well, I've spent nearly $1,000(give or take) trying to make the car a reliable daily commuter and whatnot(my day-to-day drive is anywhere from 15-60mi daily). However, there still are numerous problems with the Camry. I'm no mechanic, but I love getting dirty under the hood to save my ass labour charges that these ridiculous shops charge. The thing is I don't have a lot of necessary tools. Fortunately, my neighbor does. He has been working on cars for 25+ years and undergoes many "projects" in his garage. In short, he and I talked and eventually discussed what needed to be completed on the 3rd gen. He looked under my hood and had a utter look of disgust. He's charging me $500-600(parts+labor) to replace/rebuild old, crappy parts.
Some of the stuff are:
Oil pump(ring and seal)
Water pump
Crankseal
Camseal
Timing belt
Plugs/Wires
and a full tranny/brake service and a topping of all fluids.

WWTND? Would you guys go with his deal or just save up money and beg mommy and daddy to buy a decent used car? Keep in mind - I make $150-200/wk(weak sauce I know...)

Oh, and thanks for reading my thread. It's pretty damn long

thats a pretty good price to have all of that stuff replaced. The timing belt went on my gen 3 at about 130k miles and my mom almost thought it wasnt worth the money to fix it, but 50k miles later the car is sunning like a champ. Things are always going to come up with a car of that mileage, but I think if you maintain it well youll be pleasantly surprised!

i'd dish out- its better than a $250/mon. payment since ur car is already paid for.
