3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm wanting to add a cruise control to my 96 (Gen 3) Camry. It has 4 cylinder 5sfe, automatic trans, 105K miles.
I've looked through the Internet and haven't found any ideas. I have the control box and stalk parts, still looking for the engine (servo?) part.
Anyone done this before?
Best, John
most of the dx 92-96 camry didnt come with cruise control. I have own 2 gen3 camry dx 5 speed and none of them came with cruise control. It would be really helpful if anyone had done it, and post information about it.
i believe the easiest way would to jsut tare the unit and hardware with it out of a junked car. not many people go searching for a whole cruise control system.

OK, so I go to the junkyard and get all the stuff. Charged up the camera and get started making a photo show of how-to-do-it. I have it all in a documented EXCEPT the brain box for the cruise. I thought it was under the glovebox, but on the 1996 I can't any loose plug for it. ( got the stuff off of a 1994)
I have the Haynes manual, Chiltons manual, and the online pdf. In my Chiltons manual..it says that some ECMs are located under the dash on the drivers side of the car, while others are located behind the glovebox.

Thanks,
I need to know if my 96 is behinfd the dash because it's not to be found (the harness) isn't around the glovebox area. Hapen to know where behind the dash side it might be? I guess I'll remove the dash next as then it will match the passenger side!!!
Thanks for your help

The CC on my '96 V6 is RIGHT next to the ECU. It;s the silver box with the green wire harness connector. The plug is likely taped onto the harness aroung that area. I'll look tomorrow when it is light out to give you a much better idera where it may be (if it is there).

I've got mine mount there too. I just can't find the crappin' green plug that leads to the harness. I'll take a couple of pics and try to get them posted. Adam's pictures have it mounted in the same place as both mine and the two door I got it from. Maybe Toyota does use a different harness for cruise. But I have the plus for the servo under the hood and the column plug has the wires dfor the cruise also. I would have thought they would have also had the ECU harness to include the plug for the cruise.
Thanks for the help!!
