92 Camry must warm up 5mins or else

Hello,

I have a 92 camry, 6 cyc., 3vz engine with 203,000 miles on it. If I don't let the car warm up for 3-5 minutes and I try to take off right away, I won't be able to get above 900 to 1500 rpms. If I push down on the gas and try to force it, I can here some popping sounds from under the hood. This passes after about a minute or two, and the car starts to run like normal. This is really annoying if I have to be somewhere quick, like if i'm late for work in the morning. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? O2 sensor maybe?

Have you tried to access any CEL codes?

i'm in Texas, so its not very cold here. What are CEL codes? I probably shouldn't be messing with them.

CEL codes are Check Engine Light Codes. I am uncertain when the 6 cyl Camrys went to OBDII ports. If yours is OBDII then a lot of auto parts stores (Auto Zone, O'Reily) will pull the code(s) for you. Post these up here and there may be some ideas.

If it is an OBDI port then do a search or check the following thread:
1992 Camry engine diagnostic software
