Exclamation 98 Camry ignition coil problem

Hi,

Quick question. 98 Camry V6, this morning after i started the car could hear an inconsistent exhaust. Like not all the cylinders were firing. Loss of power when in gear. Opened the hood and noticed that on one of the ignition coils, the one to drivers side was arching itself to the mounting bolt. Eventually it stopped and I managed to get to work but im worried that the coil is failing. The weather was about 8C and damp. I'm going to pick up a replacement coil from the dealership this afternoon but want to make sure there is nothing else im over looking that might cause the spark to jump through the housing to the mounting bolt.

Thanks

Jake

If you saw the arc that is pretty conclusive. Look at the coil housing. Is it cracked, damaged, or melted?

Hi,

Had a look at it, nothing obvious... plastic seems slightly off in that area but other then that nothing visual. Im guessing insulation inside the coil has deteriorated. This is the first time I noticed the symptoms and saw the arc. Didn’t come up again after I left work for home today but picked up a replacement ignition coil and changed it just the same. Not worth getting stuck in the middle of the highway.

Thanks for the confirmation.
