Gen 4 Trailer Hitch Removal

Hi. I just bought a 98 Camry CE and it came with a trailer hitch under the bumper at the back. I would like to remove it but was told by the dealer that it can not be removed because it is welded to the frame. Can i just cut this off with a torch without damaging the frame?

I think it is pssible to remove it without damaging the frame. But you have to find someone who knows what they are doing. The dealership's technicians are not as skilled in welding than say a welding shop. That's where I'd start.

Keep in mind lots of bad things can happen if the wrong person attempts to remove it: melted bumper cover, warped frame, frame holes....you name it. Just make sure the person has done it before with success.

The dealer was a lazy bones thats all; hopefully bronze is right about the 4 bolts if not just get a grinder for $10 from harborfreight and take it off youself...i'd be leery about a camry that had been used to tow stuff hopefully the previous owner didnt do it often cause the camry is not made for that after all and puts too much stresses on the drive train - stupid person who put a tow hitch on anyway
