3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just wanted to say hello, I had no idea that there was a forum for this... I have a Black 92 Camry LE with 82,000 miles and a fully loaded 94 Camry with 110,000 miles.. I also have a 2002 Camaro SS Anyways... The black one is my newest acquisition and theres a few little problems... The friggin door handle broke off. I tried using epoxy and after 5 or 6 times opening the door, it broke again... bought a new one on ebay. How hard is it to change? 2nd the passenger side window doesnt go up or down, it has cardboard wedged in there so Im guessing the window motor is bad, is it common for this item to break? I haven't had time to take the door panel off to see whats wrong, is it safe to buy the regulator and motor and just swap them out? What would cause the brake light to go on? I added fluid and it still stays lit. Is there a way to scan the brake system via snap-on scanner? heres a picture
1: Inside or ourside door handle, front or rear? Inside door handles are a sinch to change. Front outside are a bitch, takes some time, rear is not that bad.
*Edit, I;m a dumbass. Just read Rob's response above, then looked at the picture and saw the broken handle.
2: If there is a cardboard wedge, I'd thing the regulator itself broke. Can you hear the the motor making a noise, or is it completely dead? I usually only ger OEM Toyota parts, but the motor is a lot of money. They sell a Regulator/motor combo on Ebay thats a LOT cheaper.
3: As for the brake light. Is it the "Light out" or "Emergency Brake" light? People get them confused sometimes.
BTW, what is it with Camaro owners buying a Camry as a Daily Driver? I think your the 3rd person here. haha.

I'm not driving the black Camry yet, I drove the green 94 for a while and parked it. I daily drive a Jeep mostly due to my job in construction. My friends sister offered me some loot for the black one so I might just sell it The little orange brake light showing the rear lamps goes off, all the bulbs are good.
haha, for the V6. the SC was made for the 97-01 Camry, along with a few other cars with the engine, but also works on the '94-'96 V6 camry's.
Check the 3rd brake light (on the rear deck inside the car). Mine drove me crazy once on my old '92 Camry. It had a loose filiment that only SOMETIMES did not make contact. That bulb seems to cause most of the issues.
Also, do BOTH of the trunk lights, and BOTH of the side ones work? The light will come on on the dash if either the brake light, or I "think" just the normal light is also out, but not 100% sure.

They are the TRD Superchargers. They have not sold them new for years though, so you need to get them used. They are similiar to the ones the GM's use (Like the Bonnevilles). I actually just got my SC oil at the GM dealer 2 weeks ago, lol.
If you really want to learn about them, www.SolaraGuy.com is the best place for it.
This is my car (And Eye8Pussies here on TN, Silver/Blue car, also has a SC and is a '94).

Before buying a replacement regulator check that you have power to the plug at the motor when the switch is activated.
If all of the lights are good (and do check that third light that ASG14 mentioned) look at the bases and sockets for corrosion. One of those battery terminal brushes usually has a wire brush that will clean inside the socket and the base of the bulb.

Often, it's the loose screw between the steering wheel and the driver's seat that needs to be fixed first!
There is 2 main bolt on the handle I think. And 2 on the lock. I can't remember off the top my head, but it took me like 3 hours the 1st time I did it. The one MAIN thing to say is be carefull with thje small plasic clips when you take them off the metal rods. Use a flathead screwdriver.
