Check engine light came on for ~100 miles then turned off by itself

All

On my 1998 Camry, the engine check light came on for about 100 miles and then went off automatically by itself.

The reason I continued driving even after the check engine light came on was because I wanted to take it back to the service shop which did extensive work ($1500 worth) on my camry - so did not want to pay another shop to do a diagnostic test. But before I could make time to go to the shop it turned off by itself.

Should I be concerned?

thanks

I would say no. If your oil is okay, your coolant level is fine and you're not overheating, you should be okay. My first guess would be 02 sensor..might have passed some moisture that set it off, then when it burned off, your OBD re-checked the system after 100 miles and detected it was okay...autozone (or maybe advance autoparts) will code your car for free...I'd hit them next time it happens

My 1st question to you is did you put gas in your car recently, if so check and make sure the gas cap is tight. If it is not tight it will set the lite. If you put gas in it while it's running it will do it to.

agree - it's the best thing to check first

No i did not pump gas recently into the vehicle. so no possibility of gas cap being not tight enough.

Oil - was topped when I did the 135 K service - including all belts replacement, all fluids drain and top off.

Coolant - the level should be good since the car is not over heating. I could nto check as my wife took the car today morning.

O2 sensors - does the OBD actually re-check every 100 miles? Because the light actually did turn itself off just after 100 miles - and that too while I was driving.

Thanks.

yes, it does - maybe not 100 exactly, but anywhere between 75-150 miles on most car...at least that's what my Honda does...If I disconnect the rear 02 sesnor, the light comes on in 75 miles ...if I pull over, and reconnect the 02 sensor, the light goes off in 75 miles.

Yes many of the senors like o2, egr, etc check themselves every pre determined number of miles. Or it could be a part on its way out. This happened to my beacuse of a bad vsv. The best thing to do is to check the code right when it comes back. I wouldnt worry about it too much but check it.
