I just wanted to know how toyota wired the 8 speaker system so I can upgrade to better speakers. There is only 3 posibillities that toyota could have wired the system 1. run 4 speakers in parallel with the other 4 speakers. 2. run 4 speakers in series with the other 4 speakers. 3.run a type of crossover so that you only have miderange and tweeters sperately????????????????????????????............. ....................Anyone know???...........................

I'm not at ALL an Audio guy, so I'll just say what I KNOW on my car (the upgraded 6 speaker system for the sedan)

The Tweeter has the crossover built on it. It;s just 2 wires to it that I think branches out from the 6.5" speaker.

The rear 6x9's are on seperate wires. If I remember correctly from installing my aftermarket radiop, there is 8 speaker wires (4+ and and 4- wires). 2 to each speaker area. So yeah, I guess that would mean the Tweeters are run off the same wire as the 6.5" speaker int he doors.

A bit of testing.

To be absolutely certain, you could easily figure this out with an ohm meter or continuity tester.
For example: figure out which is the RF speaker wires at the head unit (disconnected from head unit). Connect ohm meter. Go to the RF speaker wires (disconnected from speaker). Short the +/- with a jumper on one set of wires. If you get continuity, you have parallel wiring. Un-short and short the other set of RF speaker wires, continuity again? Definitely parallel. If you have to short both at the same time before you get continuity, then you have series. You could repeat this for all four corners, RF RR LF and LR, but I think it you figure one out, you will have it for all.
BTW, when I put my Infinity's into my camry, I just used the 6 1/2 speaker and that wiring, I unplugged the tweeter up topside by the mirror. It sounded much better that way. The additional parallel speaker was throwing the whole sound off, both electronically and acoustically. Let Infinity sound engineers do what we pay them to.
