AT transaxle pump re-install

Hello,
I pulled the engine and transaxel to fix a seal leak. I also pulled the transmission pump out to look at the bushing for the torque converter seal.
After putting the components back into the transmission, I noticed the shaft tightens considerably as I tighten the front plate holding the pump in.
Is this normal?
Should I be able to rotate the shaft even after the front plate is tight? I wondering if I have the plate too tight or something else not correctly in place before I put the engine and transaxle back together.

Also, any tips on making the "runout" measurement would be helphul.

Rick

I wish I had answers for you..I did a direct swap for my mothers 99 4cyl from a 2001 4cyl...sounds like you've done some considerably more complicated work on your trannie.

My only question/advice (and this might be overkill) is did you tighten the front plate to torque specs? Maybe the new seal (since it is not as compressed as your old seal) is making the shaft more difficult to rotate?
