Gen 3.5 5SFE 2.2 IL Differential Oil Change

I drained and filled my differential today, Dexron III.

It uses 1.6 Quarts. The fluid was cruddy. I changed it about 30,000 miles ago. 10 mm Hex and 17 mm for the fill bolt. Now I remember how difficult it is to fill. I ended up wasting half a quart that flooded my garage and all over my shirt!

You have to have a long fill hose. I used an adapter that shuts off, but of course the shut off did not work. But I am happy I changed the oil, it was nasty and there were some gunk on the magnet, too.

What do you use for the filling?

I use a Sta-Lube pump for these kinds of jobs. It is a plastic pump that goes right into the oil bottle and the end of the clear hose has a fitting that grips the treads on the fill hole so it wont easily fall out.

Thanks that's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had one....just did not know where I put it. So I used the one that screws into the quart bottle and has a shut off. The spigot that connects to the hole does not have the seration...so it slips out easily.

I have seen a few of these on the BM stores, even Wallyworld. I will get one for sure, even if I will not use it for another year! Thanks.
