I bought my 96 camry thurs and the engine blew up the next day.

HELP! I bought my first toyota on thursday aftet the tranny in my 99 ford tuarus died. I had just found out my father was on his deathbed, so I bought a camry, since they were recommended to me. 4 hours into the 6 hour drive, I blow a bearing and I am stranded in the middle of nowhere in central california, 2 hours from my dying father, and alone. Should I even fix this car? Is it even worth it, or do I take this guy to court for my money back? Where do I find a new engine for cheap? I am a poor young college student. Any help or advice is great.

Fuck that shit, take that dude to court. That's unacceptable. If they told you otherwise, then you should sue them.

Jill........that sucks BIG TIME. However, how are you going to sue? You bought a 12 year old car with untold amount of miles on it......who would/could guarantee that?

Is the car worth fixing? Don't know you haven't given any details (what engine, how many miles, how much you paid etc). Obviously if you can get your money, do it, but don't hold your breath.

Engines can be had for "cheap" from newly wrecked running Camrys.....call junkyards, or have your mechanic ask around.

I know this isn't the "help" or "advice" you want to hear, but it's pretty accurate. Good luck with your pops......did you see him yet?

Take the car back, get your money back.

California has some pretty tight lemon laws...you may not have any recourse with a private party seller, but a dealership, or even a used car lot might be required to refund you, or replace the car within a certain window of time.

Worth checking your states laws.

Definitely check your local/state laws. If I were you, I would attempt to get my money back via courts. Did you get a carfax on it or any "promises"? Good luck with it though. Sorry this happened on such a sad occasion too. Definitely go spend time with your father over worrying about the money right now. You can go after the money later, but your father can't be replaced. Hope all is going well with your father and best wishes.

When you want sports car handling, you buy a sports car.

thank you for the advice. I called the man and he is paying to tow it back to so cal. He will call me when it gets there. The car has 138k miles on it, and is the regular LE. I don't really know much about it besides that. I was really excited to have a camry though. I did see my dad for a few hours before I headed home. Thanks again.

I don't know if the lemon law applies to private sales, but I know you are supposed to have I think 4 days to get a refund legally.
