Bass-Ackwards: Anyone swapped a 1MZ for a 5S?!

I want to buy my first Gen4 Camry, but it has a seized 1MZ under the hood. Cheapest wrecker is $1000 for a long block, with high mileage. Not good.

I have a 91 Celica GTS in the scrap yard where I work, with a 5SFE and a 5-speed tranny. I can get those for FREE.

I tried forum searching but gave up...is it possible to swap a 5S gas miser into a V6 Camry without chopping and re-welding engine/tranny mounts?

i think its just a matter of where the mouts are, i believe you can change them out without changing the subframe. but ull need to get teh ecu as well, and im not sure if teh celica one is the same as the camry one.

its definitely possible and should not be too difficult since all of the camrys were designed to accept both the 1MZ and the 5S, however there will be some work as bigbird described above

Yeah, I was assuming the ECU would be different...I can handle wiring but I wanted to be sure the gen3/4 aren't designed the same way as the gen2 Camrys, where all the mounts have to be welded on to accept the different powerplant.

Can you believe this stupid town I'm living in doesn't have a shop willing to rebuild the 1MZ for me? I miss Toronto...
