Warning: **Disturbing Images Attached**

Never seen anything like this in a transmission. This is a 2000 Camry with only 99k on it. When I dropped the trannie pan, this is what I found...

Still not sure how or why this happened, but when I removed the diff cover, I found this on the main gear.

There are teeth missing and chipped all the way around..My guess is, once a tooth got into the transmission, it caused more damage - eventually leading to the transmission failure.

If your camera has a macro setting for taking pictures...use that when taking up close and personal pictures like the last one. Things will come out MUCH clearer.

But yeah....that sucks!

interesting that's why you should clean both the engine and transmission cover to make it ran smoother

3rd Generation

uuuuummmmmmmm WOW! Yeah that definately caused the failure, check with the NTHSA (National Transportation Highway Safety Administration) for a MFGR recall, it may still be coved by Toyota if it has been a frequent problem for that design. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

As for .....

I belive he was referring to her LAST car not the Camry he is talking about now (not to point fingers)

Damn! Any way you can get the broken teeth to someone who can see why the part failed? Metal fatigue/shock, something like that.

because this camry has 99,000 miles on it...her last car lasted 310,000. She still owns this camry, so this is her present car.
