3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Never seen anything like this in a transmission. This is a 2000 Camry with only 99k on it. When I dropped the trannie pan, this is what I found...
Still not sure how or why this happened, but when I removed the diff cover, I found this on the main gear.
There are teeth missing and chipped all the way around..My guess is, once a tooth got into the transmission, it caused more damage - eventually leading to the transmission failure.
If your camera has a macro setting for taking pictures...use that when taking up close and personal pictures like the last one. Things will come out MUCH clearer.
But yeah....that sucks!

uuuuummmmmmmm WOW! Yeah that definately caused the failure, check with the NTHSA (National Transportation Highway Safety Administration) for a MFGR recall, it may still be coved by Toyota if it has been a frequent problem for that design. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.
As for .....

I'm totally perplexed on this one....
Why did you say 99 thousand in the first post.
I belive he was referring to her LAST car not the Camry he is talking about now (not to point fingers)
