3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
from my prior research, easiest thing to do is take a blowdrier and blow the badges for a little while and then use dental floss to peel them off REALLY REALLY slowly. it's important that you're patient with that last part to avoid permanent marks on the paint. im sure there's many others on this forum who can speak from experience, though ... please correct me if im wrong
+1 for fishing line. I did mine last August when it was 90+ degrees out. Let my car bake in the sun for a few hours and then didn't need a blow dryer. The tape heated up in the sun and the fishing line sliced right through.
Some gen3/3.5s have the Toyota and LE, XLE, V6 emblems pegged. Some have them just taped. There were several threads on this topic. I don't know if we ever figured out what determined which ones were pegged and which ones weren't.
The big Cowboy/Sombrero badge on the trunk lid is always pegged. On the 3.5s, the C A M R Y letters are pegged.

Yep. I left the sombrero and the C A M R Y also. In my case it wasn't cause I didn't want to be naked. I just didn't want the hassle and expense of filling the holes and painting.
I had a strange mix of "gold package" emblems and chrome. My C A M R Y letters were chrome and all the rest of the emblems were gold. I really didn't care for the gold on my red paint. Also had gold pinstripe, and a black tape dealer emblem above the Toyota emblem. I debadged, then replaced the gold sombreros, front and rear, with new chrome ones, and removed the pinstripe and dealer emblem.
Here's my rear end...
Before
After
Well, OK, technically it's my Camry's rear end. Nobody would want to see mine
so it's safe to say that on the 94 only the sombrero is pegged
Not necessarily. It's possible that your Toyota or LE emblems are pegged. Some cars have 'em pegged. Some don't. It wasn't based on year. Somebody suggested it might be Japanese vs. American built. Somebody suggested it might be dealer add on "gold package" vs. factory chrome. Don't think anyone ever determined for sure how to tell.
Question is, do you want to remove them if they're pegged and you have to fill and paint? If yes, then just do it. If no, then you may want to inspect closely and see if you can tell if yours are pegged or not.
If you decide to remove and they are pegged, your job may be slightly more difficult since you won't be able to just start at one side and slice all the way across. Still not a big deal. With my sombrero emblem I just worked it from all sides til I had cut as much tape as I could, then pried it off gently.
I have a 92 LE and when i debadged everything they were all pegged. TOYOTA had 2 holes, sombrero had 4 I believe and LE had 2......just used dental floss, took like 30 minutes
painted them black and put on a clear coat....looks pretty good, but i botched up some wit glue
