2000 Toyoto Camry Flex Pipe

Hey..
So my flex plipe on my Camry is broken. I have the California exhaust I guess. I took it to Midas and they want 1000 (900 part 100 labor). They said that I need to replace the whole pipe including the Cat. Conveter since it is all one piece. Someone said that I could have the flex pipe cut and replaced, is that a good option if I want to keep it for a while? Any other options? Thanks.

$1K is a little extreme! Just take it to an exhaust shop and ask them to weld in an after market flex pipe. Shouldn't cost more than $300.

camry flexpipes tend to rust and break after 8-10 years or so

same thing happened to my 94 camry last year.

here's what u do, take ur cam to a local shop. show them exactly where it's broken.

and this is what they should do...take ur flexpipe and cut it off where it's leaking...and weld back in the piece it's cut off...

it cost me 100 bucks =]

This exact same thing is going on with me man. Emissions won't pass, the local Stealership wants 1000, this other place wants 800, what is this madness I ask?

just change the y-pipe and leave the cat

and if they keep telling you to change the cat, ask them why they need to since the cat is fine and it's not throwing a code. then ask them why they are incompetent and can't just cut and weld.

then ask them why it's any of their business if you pass emissions or not when they aren't recommending a cat change, and only doing a job that YOU requested

I had the rusted out OEM flex pipe cut out and an aftermarket flex pipe welded back in recently by an independent muffler shop on my 94 Camry. Cost was $150 here in the Chicago area. This is a common repair for a rusted out flex pipe.

What kind of sound would a leaking flex pipe make? My camry has recently began to get noisy when giving it gas but all is good when idling or costing. Where is the flex pipe located on a '95 Camry 2.2? Before or after cat convertor?
