3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
A friend has a 1995 Camry station wagon and is trying to access the fuel pump in the tank. He states he has removed the rear seat but finds only carpet. The sedan has no carpet under the lower seat and removing it reveals the pump cover.
Does anyone know how to access the pump on the station wagon, does the complete carpet need to be removed?
No personal experience. My manual does not show any provision for pulling the carpet. Is it possible that it has been recarpeted and not left open? If you can feel the fuel pump cover you might try cutting the carpet with a razor (make an "X" in the carpet over the assembly). Remember, watch out for the wires and the like when cutting. and don't cut past where the seat conceals the cut.

The owners states the carpet is stock. The info I have also has nothing on accessing the pump in a wagon. As you would assume the tank location must by the same as the sedan. Have taken pump cover location measurements from a 1995 sedan and passed them on.
Kind of strange Toyota having no removable section of carpet on the wagon.
Hey, I am having the same problem! I was going to test a fuel pump in the wagon and found the carpet only. Does anyone have any experience with accessing fp in wagons (don't want to break anything....)?

you need to pull up the carpet. it is in the same place as the 4dr or coupe. do not cut the carpet!!!! just move it. i own a wagon and prefer this way cause it keeps my car clean.

Oh, common! It doesn't have info about how to remove carpet in wagon.
Really?
http://www.**********s.com/camry/bo.pdf Page 120 or so will get the seats out. Lots of interior stuff here... you could strip the entire interior with this PDF. Read carefully. You're probably going to have to remove trim pieces around the edges so you can pull the carpet back.

Regardless to the fact that FSM is useless here, I guess I found two clips holding the carpet (behind the seat back). It is also helpful to remove two side pillows. Carpet there is really hard and it is not that easy to remove it. Another challenge will be to put it back.... Thanks to everyone!

I accessed pump cover on my wagon. Only way is to cut back the carpet. Toyomoho, you once gave me a close approximation of the sedan's cover location when this issue came up on another forum. I used that to locate where to cut the carpet. The cut only has to be enough to peel back the carpet for enough access. Base the location on a sedan's.
