Camry V6 SE 1992 :(:(

Hello,

I Have a Toyota camry 1992 V6 SE... before buying I had it inspected at the shop where they are AAA certified.
It has 143,000 miles and it looks very good inside and out.... I bought for 3400$...

At the shop they said it was a good car, it was gonna need a tune up they said and maybe a CVC boot...
I was glad and excited about this car, because I was reassured it was in good condition...

Well for 4 or 5 days I drove the car and everything seemed to be fine. One day I decided to change the oil (it was due) and I put a bottle of GUMMOUT to clean the fuel system (it was a reddish fluid) and since that day everyday when i start my car in the morning there is a puff of blue smoke comming from the exaust..

I changed the PCV valve and it was very hard to remove and to put it back on it felt like it was not going all the way down

Do you think I have bad valve guides on the car? Does that mean I have a bad engine? It is pretty sad , because I had it inspected and I was told it was fine...
DO you think that bottle of gummout makes my car smoke?

Thanks for your answers..

From Patrik a camry driver who is disapointed

Did you happen to read the back of the bottle and see if it mentions anything about blue smoke when starting???

Just offering my 2 cents.

Thanks for answering...No it did not say anything about blue smoke at startup...Actually when i went and looked at the car the seller started the car and there was some steam coming from the exaust which made me thought that it was cold...I did not see blue smoke... (unless he had started it long enough to make the smoke disapear) There will be some blue/black some for 1 or 2 seconds maximum and then it is normal steam.... will try to find another bottle and talk to you guys about it...! thanks!!!

yeah, that solvent stuff probably took out the sludge that was acting as a seal for your valve guide seals...

i have a 92v6 as well 227000kms and it does that when its been sitting for a day

engine still runs strong, and when the engine heats up it seals, i don't think its a big deal, not worth the labour of changing the valveguide seals...

I am very disapointed though....

The mechanic said that I had a good car...
he probably did not check it good enough...

So do I have a bad engine or an engine that is just old and shows normal wear?

Do you think that bottle of fuel system cleaner caused that smoke?

I replaced the PCV valve this weekend and is it normal I feel like the new one does not fit as good as the old one... it does not go all the way in it seems...

Also I was looking for the pcv valve and I removed a hose from the side of the valve cover and in it there was a lot of oil..I wonder if that indicates something

not really, the mechanic couldn't really have told unless he had taken the engine apart

you put that solvent stuff in there (diesel fuel) its kinda like switching to synthetic oil, you might get a leak

i'd get pissed if it started constantly burning oil, like a litre every few days

So,

If the oil consumption does not get high I should not worry about it too much?

The mechanic said it needs a tune up...would changing the wires and spark plugs and put a fuel filter in help everything...?

What about that PCV valve6 is it normal it felt like it was not going in all the way?

oil is cheap...

ummm the pcv valve should fit in there pretty good, but if its solidly in there its all good

the bit of oil, well since oil splashes in the valve case and there is flow through the pcv valve, a small amount wouldn't be anything to get excited about

fuel filter should be changed every 2 years,
spark plugs every 100000 kms, use denso iridium plugs (toyota recomended, its in your owners manual),
wires, not unless they're cracked, or if you have a multimeter you can check the resistance in them, there is a spec for that

So an engine as long as it has oil in it and taken care of will run forever? Do you think I was ripped off for the price I paid for?

is it 5spd, cuz if so i'd say you got a good deal, they're more elusive

for an auto, i'd say that's a fair price, if the rest of the car is in good condition (paint, interior...)

The car is a 5 speed. It is burgundy with all the option in it sunroof, cruise control, alloy wheels, ect... It has 230,000 KM on it.. It drives real nice but ?&*?&*?& smokes when you first start it in the morning...
The guy went to the Toyota dealer frequently... the timing belt is new on it , it has new brakes ect...The oil was changed frequently also... that guy kept the car for 70,000 miles I think...he just bought a Lexus 1992...

The only bad thing about the car, the back seats are a little stained.....I thought i had such a good deal till that morning when i noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.

Maybe I am paranoid but it seems like it is getting worse...

Well it pisses me off that I spent that much and went to the garage to have it inspected and then I realize that it might leave me stranded sooner or later because of a worn engine

I love these cars though..It was one of the cars I was hoping to get someday....
