Engine swap? 2007 V6 into '92 Camry?

Here's a nutty idea: As luck would have it, I can get a great deal on a 2007 Camry that's
been totalled from behind. It has the 265 HP V6 in it.

The car's smashed but it runs great. It just won't get far with the rear wheels being locked
up in the damage.

I've got a '92 V6 LE Camry. It's in fantastic shape and is just days away from getting a
brand new paint job in DuPont G9900 super black ChromaBase, but the question has arisen:

Would it be practical without MAJOR modifications to swap the engine, transmission, and ECU
from the '07 into the '92? (Repinning the wiring harness would be serious, not major.)

Mostly it's a question of whether or not the engine and transmission would mate up in the
Camry chassis, including, of course, whether or not the steering linkages and CV shafts
would mate up. And the motor mount locations, of course.

Nobody would expect a 15 year old Camry to be cranking out 265 HP.

I think it'd be a killer, quicker off the line than a lot of "factory" performance cars.

Is it possible...Yes.

Is it possible without major work...No. Custom Motor mounts will be needed. You will most likely need custom driveshafts, custom tranny mounts, custom...well custom a lot really.

Would it be worth it? Maybe, depends on your perspective i guess. It's something i would consider...if i still had a camry...and i didn't have my S2000.

But why not put the money saved into the V6 already there?

dont bother, the ammount of money, time and trial and error for being the forst to do it would not be worth it in my opinion. not to mention its DBW which is poo on that engine. stick with somthing that has been done liek 3vz, 1mz, 3mz or 3sgte. you can get a 1mz or 3vz for pretty cheap and turbo it and blow away the gen6 3.5. just my opinion.

It's 268HP

I'm not an expert, but you would also need a new gauge cluster, shifter console, and I bet so much more interior stuff would need to be swapped out that I couldn't imagine it would be worth it. Why don't you try to salvage the Gen 6?

Basically the only thing you would be keeping is the frame, body, and part of the interior. You would need a completely new exhaust, ECU, and any device that goes along with the ECU. I'm sure that the Gen 6 ABS operates differently then the Gen 3 ABS, so that would probably need to be swapped out as well.

WTF are people always knocking DBW for? There is nothing wrong with it. If it's done right, i personally find it 1000x's better than throttle cable.
