3rd Generation 1993 camry axle

Bought my kids 93 & 96 camrys. I usally do the work on them myself.
But have come to a dead end on this one.......
Bought a replacement for (HALF) Drive shaft (LH). Thought it would be a peice of cake to install as per service manual. Nooooot I week later, ready to give up.
Can not remove the tulip housing from the trans axle case. Tried everything.
Made up my own puller with a 20lb weight on the end. Nothing. Gave up and brought it down to local mechanics shop, 3 1/2 hours later, car returned to me, no charge, he gave up. From what I gather theres a snap ring on the end of the shaft that holds it to the transaxle output shaft and with some prying it should come loose. New to this forum and appreciate any help in advance.. Regards From California

sorry to hear...

Mine is a 2000 camry 4cyl, auto and I just removed both axles - drivers side was hardest, but not impossible - passengers side slipped out very easily.

I used a long crowbar on the drivers side - I jacked the car up as high as I could, and got some good leverage on the bar, and found a good point to brace against...I pushed with all my might, and it popped out.

Hope this helps...I wish you the very best of luck, and hope somone who's done it on your year car will chime in...

It's a tough job working without a hoist. Toyota doesn't give much for the pry to bite on. I eventually had to use a 3 foot pry bar from above and a pivot wedged against the engine. It takes a fair amount of force but it will break loose. When re-assembling use the suspension as the weight to force it back in. That also will take some force. I would use a new c-clip and be sure to position the open end down.
